HEROES OF THE COLVILLES FIRE
Second Level Resource aimed at P7 (Scotland) and KS1 students
In 2022-23, Forged by Fire worked with Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, the Fire Brigades Union and Knowetop Primary School, Motherwell, to commemorate two fallen firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty at a fire at a steelworks in Bellshill, Scotland, in January 1963. A series of four workshops were delivered, designed to use creative learning activities for learning about remembrance, heroism, fire investigation and memorialisation. These resources consist of PowerPoint slides and worksheets for students to complete.

In January 2023, a Red Plaque was unveiled at Motherwell Fire Station to honour firefighters McIntosh and Calderwood. The pupils all took an active part in the proceedings, doing readings during the ceremony and laying a wreath at the plaque. We were joined by serving and retired firefighters, civic officials and the families of the two firefighters. You can read more about the day here
